Geocaching - Get out and get started for the spring. This course is an introduction to geocaching where you will learn the basics of the worldwide played game. Participants will receive a introduction 1.5 hour classroom instruction, hands on use of a GPS receiver, use of the geocaching.com app and then followed by an actual cache find on BSA property. The course will conclude with a question and answer session. Course length is expected to be approximately 3 to 4 hours.

Participants wishing to use the Geocaching.com application during this course will need their parents permission to create a user account and a smart phone. This is not required for the course but encouraged.

For any scout wishing to conduct the actual merit badge, this course will present the knowledge base for many of the requirements listed in the BSA merit badge pamphlet. Scouts may be eligible to receive a sign off of those requirements found to be clearly understood at the conclusion of the course ~ possible requirements to be signed off during this one-day event would be 1a, 1c, 2a, 2b, 2c, 6, 7.

Scouts looking to start the merit badge must first in accordance of the BSA Merit Badge process obtain permission from their units to begin the merit badge. Blue card or Scoutbook connections are accepted. They may continue with counselor following the course to complete badge.
